I’ll be participating in the 10th annual Great California “Paint Out” this Saturday, September 10th (my birthday!) in Davis at the John Natsoulas gallery. A variety of landscape painters will be painting at various locations in Davis that morning, followed by an art show and silent auction starting at 7:00 that evening. Should be fun!
The art box I painted for the Sacramento News and Review is now listed on their web site. It has a bio of me that’s actually a shameless attempt to get SN&R to throw some illustration work my way, and an inspirational quote: “Don’t hate it, be it!” There’s also a map to the new home of my art box, which is Sierra College. If I can’t be in college for the rest of my life, I’m glad to know some of my art might be.
I went to high school with a really cool guy named Danny Ramirez who, like myself, dreamed of one day becoming a comic book artist. We had a lot of fun back then drawing each other’s characters, and we got to do that again recently when he asked me to draw my own version of The Comic Bug for a charity sketchbook T.R.I.B.E. Studio Comics is putting together for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. So, here’s my rendition: Given the (false) dichotomy between prose and comics, I thought it would be funny to have Comic Bug fighting an anthropomorphic personification…
